Kongsbergers Stampede & Skiathlon

The Kongsbergers Stampede is the second of three Kongsberger Ski Club cross country ski races this winter and the club’s oldest race. The Stampede is a fun and approachable race for both new and experienced racers.
This year’s Stampede features a 15k Skiathlon pursuit (in place of traditional 15k freestyle) and a 7.5k freestyle Citizens race. Skiathalon is a continuously run pursuit consisting of one lap classic, followed immediately by one lap freestyle. Ski change is permitted at lap point. Winner is determined by first racer to finish.

(Note: on Saturday afternoon, a Children’s Race is run for younger skiers 13 and under.)

Location
North side of interchange at Cabin Creek Sno-Park, exit #63 on I-90, 10 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass. Sno-Park permit and Washington State Grooming Sticker required to park.

Racers may use the Kongsberger club cabin and waxing shed on race days.
Race Course
Course is on Kongsberger trail system on US Forest Service land, north side of I-90. 7.5k is one lap, 15k is two laps.
Ski change area will be at lap point.

Early registration discount for 15k until midnight Friday, February 17. (7.5k and Juniors - Early registration fee same as Race Day.)
Race fees include $5 to fund race day grooming.

Registration permitted on race day from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in basement of Kongsberger cabin. Full price applies. Credit cards not accepted on race day.
Juniors’ Parent Waiver Required
Skiers under 18 years old must print out the waiver, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and hand it in to registration on race day. No exceptions.
Bib Pick-up & Return
Bib pick-up for all racers from 9:00 to 10:30 AM on race day in basement of Kongsberger cabin. Return bibs at finish.
Skiathlon Ski Change
Skiathlon racers may change skis between classic and skate laps. Ski change area will be designated near lap point and each racer will be assigned a place to leave their skating equipment prior to start. Look for instructions at bib pick-up.
Feed & Post-Race Food
Food for racers provided at start/lap/finish area. Racers should bring own liquid feed if needed. Post-race hot food and beverages in cabin.
Awards, Medals & Prizes
Top 3 overall awards for each race given at post-race ceremony. Age group winners announced and pick up medals downstairs after ceremony. Draw prizes at ceremony, must be present to win.

Results posted in the cabin after race or check out Race Results here within 24 hours.
Non-Racing Skiers & Spectators
Non-racing skiers are invited to watch races at the start/lap/finish area or along the trails. However, they should consider skiing at another location on race mornings (eg Lake Easton, Crystal Springs or Hyak) as Cabin Creek parking and trail use will be intensive from 10:30 to noon. As always, dogs are not permitted on groomed trails at Cabin Creek.
Lodging
Econo Lodge in Cle Elum (formerly Cascade Mountain Inn) offers a discount on lodging to racers the night before KSC races. The motel is one-half hour east of Cabin Creek just west of Rte 970 (exit #85) on I-90. Call the front desk to ask for Kongsberger rate & book rooms at (509) 674-2380. Rate not available when booking online.
