Kongsbergers Stampede & Skiathlon

The Kongsbergers Stampede is the second of three Kongsberger Ski Club cross country ski races this winter and the club’s oldest race.  The Stampede is a fun and approachable race for both new and experienced racers.
This year’s Stampede features a 15k Skiathlon pursuit (in place of traditional 15k freestyle) and a 7.5k freestyle Citizens race. Skiathlon is a one day, continuously run pursuit consisting of one lap classic, followed immediately by one lap freestyle. Equipment change (ski, poles and boots) is permitted at lap point. Winner is determined by first racer to finish.

(Note: on Saturday afternoon, a Children’s Race is run for younger skiers 13 and under.)

Location
North side of interchange at Cabin Creek Sno-Park, exit #63 on I-90, 10 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass. Sno-Park permit and Washington State Grooming Sticker required to park. 1-day permits for purchase online.  Racers may use the Kongsberger club cabin and waxing shed on race days.

Race Course
Course is on Kongsberger trail system on US Forest Service land, north side of I-90.  7.5k is one lap, 15k is two laps. 15k Skiathlon equipment change area will be at lap point, just before start line. Change area layout to be posted week before race. Course Map and map of start/finish area

Early registration discount for 15k until midnight Friday, February 17. (7.5k and Juniors - Early registration fee same as Race Day.)
Race fees include $5 to fund race day grooming.

Register by Friday, February 17 to receive early discount. (Pre-registration strongly recommended to assist race committee in organizing Skiathlon logistics.)

Registration permitted on race day from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in basement of Kongsberger cabin. Full price applies. Credit cards not accepted on race day. Racers may request to switch races on race day and pay the difference (if any). No refunds.

15k Skiathlon registration will close promptly at 10:30 – no exceptions. Racers arriving after then may register for the 7.5k Citizens race if registration volunteers are still present.

Juniors’ Parent Waiver Required
Skiers under 18 years old must print out the waiver, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and hand it in to registration on race day. No exceptions.

Bib Pick-up & Return
Bib pick-up for all racers from 9:00 to 10:30 AM on race day in basement of Kongsberger cabin.  Return bibs at finish. 15k Skiathlon bib pick-up will close promptly at 10:30 – no exceptions. Skaithlon racers arriving after then may switch to the 7.5k Citizens race if registration volunteers are still present.

15k Skiathlon racers return bibs at finish and receive a numbered ticket to retrieve their equipment.

Skiathlon Equipment Change
Skiathlon racers may change skis, boots and poles between classic and skate laps. Equipment change area will be designated near lap point and each racer will be assigned a place to leave their skating equipment prior to start. Please read Racer Instructions carefully. Look for additional instructions at bib pick-up. Plan to bring skating equipment to change area 30 minutes before start.

Pick-up equipment promptly after finish. Numbered ticket from finish required to access change area to retrieve equipment after race.

Racers are encouraged to come out for the Skiathlon. Don’t let equipment stop you – there are several ways to ski this! Please see Skiathlon Racer Instructions.

Feed & Post-Race Food
Food for racers provided at start/lap/finish area.  Racers should carry any drinks or food needed during the race.  Post-race hot food and beverages in cabin.

Awards, Medals & Prizes
Top 3 overall awards for each race given at post-race ceremony.  Age group winners announced and pick up medals downstairs after ceremony.  Draw prizes at ceremony, must be present to win.

Results
Results posted in the cabin after race or check out Race Results here within 24 hours.

Non-Racing Skiers & Spectators
Non-racing skiers are invited to watch races at the start/lap/finish area or along the trails.  However, they should consider skiing at another location on race mornings (eg Lake Easton, Crystal Springs or Hyak) as Cabin Creek parking and trail use will be intensive from 10:30 to noon.  As always, dogs are not permitted on groomed trails at Cabin Creek.
